This years Chamber of Commerce banquet was held on April 19 at the High School cafeteria. With a record turnout of 240 in attendance, 24 business and community organizations purchasing tables, this years banquet will be remembered as one of the best ever.
Chamber President Anna Sterling began the evening by welcoming all in attendance. The proceedings were then turned over to MHS student Sarah Key for a stirring performance of the National Anthem. Reverend Elton Pennington then led the opening prayer.
Dinner was served by the MHS Girls Indoor Track Team, Beta Students, and FCCLA members, consisting of BBQ brisket, baked beans, coleslaw, homemade hot rolls, and cheesecake. Entertainment was provided by Sandy’s Day Care & Pre-School, Lauren Kindle and Bethany Wilkins, Haily Henson, and Nicole and Ben Brand.
Guest Speaker Shirley Walters was introduced by Marion Mathis. Georgina Edwards presented a plaque to outgoing Chamber President Glen Hurt. Then, Glen Hurt announced 2007’s Citizen of the Year, Earle Overton.
MHS Superintendent Jim Hattabaugh presented this year’s scholarship to Megan Graves, while a plaque and a check for $150.00 was presented to the Girls State Indoor Champions.
Recognition plaques were presented by Chamber President Anna Sterling to Travis Lumber for Outstanding Business, to the Reid Masonic Lodge #163 for Outstanding Organization, and to Jim Udouj for Outstanding Citizen.
