    SEBASCOTT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL

The Sebascott Economic Development Council is a non-profit organization based in Mansfield. It's purpose is to promote the economic development of the area. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at Mansfield City Hall. Each meeting starts with a pot luck supper at 6 P.M., a business meeting is held at 6:45, and then the meeting concludes with a program speaker and discussions on topics of interest. Persons interested in promoting the area are always invited to attend.
The Sebascott Economic Development Council originated from several meetings held in Mansfield and other area communities in 1993. A number of local, county, and state officials met to discuss ways of promoting the area. An assessment of the area was conducted and it was determined that a regional cooperative effort would best benefit the economic base. This resulted in the formation of the SEDC which includes South Sebastian County and Scott County.
Officers were elected to ensure planning and continuation of the council. Several initatives were adopted and promoted, including the construction of I-49 Highway, expansion of rural water and gas distribution lines, regional waste water treatment, cleanup and beautification campaigns, recreation, tourism, and many others.
In 1996-97 a Strategic Plan was developed by Sebascott. It included a vision statement, a mission statement, and plans for Stewardship, Civic Capacity, and Economic Development. The plan has directed the efforts of the council in accomplishing many of the projects that were adopted.
Marion T. Mathis, Economic Development Coordinator for the City of Mansfield, serves as Executive Director of the Council and may be reached at 479-928-5552 or contacted at Mansfield City Hall.
